About this role

General Dynamics Electric Boat, the nation's premier designer and builder of nuclear submarines, seeks Logistics Analysts to join the Material Control team. This team maintains warehouse and buffer storage for all Submarine Programs. The role is an extension of management, requiring decision-making with minimal direction and timely, accurate decisions.

Support the department’s strategic vision, manage priorities, and resolve customer questions and problems. Maintain inventory accuracy of 97.5% or greater using strategic fortitude and corrective actions. Evaluate current processes to reduce handling and warehouse costs while improving customer service.

Interact significantly with customers including EB & SUPSHIP Program Offices, NAVSEA, NAVSUP, Operations, Planning, Purchasing, Quality Departments, Government Agencies, Newport News Ship Building, and EB Off-Site Departments. Demonstrate keen understanding of logistics management, data management, project reporting, material availability analysis, schedules, and metrics reporting. Ensure full compliance with Safety, Quality, Cost, Schedule, and Continuous Improvements.

Aid in process improvement initiatives and establish metrics supporting Material Control's strategic goals. Access growth opportunities, tuition reimbursement programs, and health and wellness programs. Document and report on performance-based goals in a dynamic submarine construction environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 1 year of supply chain and/or logistics experience
  • Ability to work all shifts, including weekend duty and off-shift work as needed
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance from the Department of Defense
  • Decision maker able to work with minimal direction
  • Strategic thinking with acumen to interpret technical requirements
  • Knowledge of inventory policies, warehousing, material packaging, handling, and materials management
  • Associates degree or higher preferred

Responsibilities

  • Support Material Control in the management and movement of material for construction of all classes of submarines built at Electric Boat
  • Interpret technical requirements and draft or modify policies and procedures to adapt to current practices
  • Apply understanding of logistics management, data management, project reporting, material availability analysis, schedule review, and metrics reporting
  • Monitor and resolve issues with purchased or subcontract material, material ordering, scheduling, shortage resolution, and forecasting requirements
  • Demonstrate fiscal understanding when analyzing documents and purging material as scrap or excess
  • Use various reports and computer-driven systems daily
  • Maintain knowledge of inventory policies, warehousing, material packaging, handling, and materials management
  • Establish and maintain metrics that support the strategic goals of Material Control
