About this role

The Starship Supply Chain Sourcing Manager is a critical player in developing the supply base, cost strategy, and sourcing plan to enable the scaling of Starship production for making human life multiplanetary. This high visibility role directly impacts Raptor’s ability to hit aggressive program cost goals and develop a world-class supply chain.

Day-to-day responsibilities include strategic technical procurement, supplier development and quality management, logistics and packaging optimization, and cost negotiations. You will analyze supplier spend, capacity, and technical capabilities to develop overall supplier negotiation and engagement strategies while maintaining strong relationships with strategic partners.

Working in a highly dynamic environment, you will balance cost, reliability, and production rate using good risk management intuition. This role requires extreme ownership of work center inventory health and close collaboration with production counterparts and engineering to stay on top of start and finish dates.

This is an opportunity to develop and optimize the sourcing strategy for critical Raptor hardware, primarily forgings and complex machined parts. You will grow the vendor base to scale with the program and directly influence the entire Starship mission.

Requirements

Experience in strategic technical procurement and supplier development within aerospace or similar high-tech manufacturing
Strong knowledge of forgings, complex machined parts, and aerospace components
Proven ability to negotiate cost, quality, and delivery terms with suppliers
Ability to analyze supplier spend, capacity, and technical capabilities to develop engagement strategies
Familiarity with MRP demand planning and inventory management (min/max/reorder-points)
Experience managing production process changes and new product introduction (NPI) risk
Excellent stakeholder communication skills, especially with engineering and production teams

Responsibilities

Utilize good risk management intuition to balance cost, reliability, and production rate in a highly dynamic environment
Analyze supplier spend, capacity, technical capabilities, and core competencies to develop supplier negotiation and engagement strategies
Implement sustainable cost controls and develop cost reduction improvement plans with suppliers to support aggressive Raptor cost goals
Work directly with key suppliers and Starship strategic partners to develop sourcing and cost management strategies
Ensure work centers are clear to build on time by driving fulfillment from the vendor base and maintaining lineside inventory health
Manage production process or design change cut-ins while balancing risk of NPI to engine reliability
Mitigate sole/single source risk and lead commodity strategies for sheet metal, raw material, complex machined parts, and other aerospace components
Provide guidance to internal customers on design for manufacturability and trade analysis for precision CNC machined components
