About this role

We are looking for an organised, proactive and people-focused Assistant Transport Manager to join our team. You will play a key role in keeping our transport operation running safely, smoothly and efficiently. This role suits those who enjoy a fast-paced environment and passion for delivering great service.

You will support the Senior Transport Manager in the smooth and compliant running of daily transport operations across the fleet, including cars, vans and HGVs. Coordinate vehicle availability, schedule routine maintenance, and maintain accurate records to meet legal requirements. Assist with monitoring driver hours, analysing tachograph data, and checking licence compliance.

You will contribute to day-to-day planning, routing, and resource allocation to maintain service levels. Liaise with drivers, workshop teams, contractors and suppliers for effective communication. Promote safe working practices and a positive safety culture in a dynamic environment.

Requirements

  • Experience working within a transport, logistics or fleet environment, ideally in a transport office, planning, or coordination role
  • Solid understanding of transport compliance and safety principles, including drivers’ hours, tachograph use, vehicle inspections and Operator’s Licence requirements
  • Confident communicating with drivers and operational teams in a dynamic environment
  • Good IT skills, including transport systems, telematics, and Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong organisational abilities, attention to detail and calm problem-solving under pressure
  • Full driving licence essential
  • Transport Manager CPC (or working towards it) is a strong advantage
  • Willingness to learn, take responsibility, and contribute to an inclusive working environment

Responsibilities

  • Support the Senior Transport Manager in smooth and compliant daily transport operations across the fleet
  • Coordinate vehicle availability, schedule routine maintenance, and maintain accurate records
  • Monitor driver hours, analyse tachograph data, and check licence and training compliance
  • Assist with day-to-day planning, routing, and efficient resource allocation
  • Contribute to driver briefings and debriefs, and address operational issues
  • Promote safe working practices and support compliance with safety procedures
  • Monitor operational performance, costs and service quality, escalating concerns as required
  • Liaise with drivers, workshop teams, contractors and suppliers for timely issue resolution
