About this role

The Commodity Buyer supports strategic procurement strategies and buying activities across mechanical, optical, electronics, MRO and services categories in an SAP production environment. The role executes procurement work in close alignment with category managers to meet material availability targets for multiple customer programs.

Day-to-day work includes defining supplier cost reduction initiatives, leading negotiations with key suppliers, and managing supplier performance and development activities. The buyer also handles capacity planning for direct materials using forecasts to maintain timely supply for production needs.

This position operates as part of the Jenoptik Optical System Procurement Team and contributes to global material group activities. Cross-functional collaboration with engineering, product management, quality, and sales teams supports early procurement involvement in new product development.

The hybrid role based in Jupiter, FL, offers opportunities to implement global digital approaches with the supplier base while driving cost, quality, and delivery performance. US citizenship or qualified worker status is required for compliance with federal law.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or another technical field is preferred.
1-5 years’ procurement experience in a technology driven manufacturing environment.
Optics & precision metal, electronics, MRO and Service procurement background is preferred.
Knowledgeable of US Government Procurement/ITAR requirements.
Strong operational knowledge with SAP supporting SAP Procurement functions.
Lean Manufacturing experience with ISM credentials preferred.
Strong Negotiator following the Lowest Total Cost model is preferred.
Fluent in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.). Some travel required.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with Management to support Strategic Procurement Strategies and Buying Activities in Mechanical, Optical, Electronics, MRO and Services areas in an SAP Production environment.
Execute strategic procurement work in close alignment with the Category Managers and other Buyers as part of the Jenoptik Optical System Inc. Procurement Team.
Provide a high level of internal customer support to drive material availability targets in support of numerous customer programs.
Define and implement supplier cost reduction activities for defined savings targets.
Lead or support cross-functional material group teams with Engineering, Product Management, Quality and Sales and Operations locally.
Lead supplier negotiation with key suppliers and drive supplier performance and development activities.
Implement global digital approaches into the supplier base and support supplier capacity planning using forecasts.
