About this role

The Strategic Sourcing Manager for Materials secures a reliable, cost-competitive, and sustainable supply of critical materials. This role combines market intelligence, supplier relationship management, and cross-functional collaboration to support battery technology roadmaps and production scaling. It acts as the bridge between suppliers, R&D, and manufacturing for growth objectives.

Day-to-day involves developing and executing global sourcing strategies, negotiating long-term supply agreements, and qualifying new suppliers. Manage material commodity relationships, support design reviews, and handle weekly demand, supply, and capacity at supplier partners. Drive cost reduction through value engineering, alternative sourcing, and supply chain optimization.

Collaborate with Process Engineering, R&D, Manufacturing, finance, and operations teams to ensure supply assurance and align with production ramp-up. Perform Quarterly Business Reviews, monitor global markets, tariffs, and regulations for resilience. Lead supplier performance on quality, cost, delivery, and sustainability metrics like ESG and CO₂ footprint.

Build stakeholder support across locations and functions, provide benchmarking of competitive components and materials. Develop cost analysis tools, make vs. buy analyses, and strategies for supply diversification. Represent the company in strategic partnerships and investment discussions with upstream suppliers.

Requirements

  • Experience in strategic sourcing and commodity management for critical materials
  • Proven skills in supplier relationship management across raw materials to finished components
  • Expertise in negotiating supply agreements, contracts, and cost reduction opportunities
  • Knowledge of global markets, tariffs, regulations for minerals and electrode materials
  • Ability to perform cost analysis, benchmarking, and make vs. buy analyses
  • Cross-functional collaboration with R&D, engineering, manufacturing, and finance
  • Familiarity with supplier performance metrics including ESG and CO₂ footprint
  • Hands-on experience in supply chain optimization and risk management

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute global sourcing strategies for materials and optimize business processes
  • Negotiate and execute Master Supply Agreements, development contracts, and long-term supply agreements
  • Manage material commodity relationships, support design reviews, and weekly demand, supply, capacity at suppliers
  • Drive cost reduction initiatives through value engineering, alternative sourcing, and supply chain optimization
  • Monitor global market trends, tariffs, and regulatory impacts on critical minerals and electrode materials
  • Partner with R&D, Engineering, and Manufacturing to qualify new suppliers and materials
  • Lead supplier performance management including quality, cost, delivery, and sustainability metrics
  • Develop strategies for supply diversification, resilience, and alignment with production plans
