About this role
In this vital role, you will carry out training for drivers, loaders, operatives and supervisors at Biffa’s recycling and waste management contracts in Manchester, ensuring that employees are fully equipped to carry out their roles. This role is central to Biffa’s health and safety-focused culture.
Your daily responsibilities include assisting depots in achieving Vehicle Gate Check, Crew Monitoring, and Route Risk Assessment targets. You will mentor staff by addressing and correcting unsafe or non-compliant behaviours observed during these checks. You will also report major vehicle cleanliness or condition issues to the Business Manager.
You will deliver all training to a consistently high standard, aligned with Group Training Standards and contractual obligations. Coach drivers to improve skills, reduce accidents, and prevent Operator Licence contraventions. Depot-Based Training includes wheel torquing, manual handling, vehicle defect checks, and tachograph usage.

Requirements
- Previous experience in a training role or as an experienced driver in the waste management or other service industry.
- LGV Category C (Class 2) Driving Licence.
- Valid Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence).
- Working knowledge of transport and other relevant legislation.
- Previous waste or service industry experience.
- Knowledge and understanding of the requirements of working within a time-critical service environment.
- IT literate – comfortable using business software and systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent time management skills and ability to work to tight deadlines.
Responsibilities

- Deliver all training to a consistently high standard, aligned with Group Training Standards and contractual obligations.
- Tailor training content to meet contract specifications and operational needs.
- Coach drivers to improve skills, reduce accidents, and prevent Operator Licence contraventions.
- Alert Business Managers when drivers fall below competency requirements.
- Conduct Depot-Based Training on key operational practices: wheel torquing, manual handling, vehicle defect checks, in-cab PDA usage, tachographs/logbooks, and driver debriefs.
