About this role

This Commodity Buyer role supports the delivery of commodity materials and services for operation centers and strategic business units across DCO. It requires a strong understanding of categories and commodities, along with relationship management and negotiation skills.

The buyer executes commodity strategy with the DCO Commodity Director to support each SBU with optimum quality, delivery, and cost. Daily tasks include processing purchase requisitions, issuing purchase orders, and negotiating pricing and lead-times for unique components and raw materials such as aluminum, titanium, and steel.

This role interfaces with every key function and level of the business, ensuring ITAR compliance through secured and coded correspondence via approved communication portals. The buyer promotes company core values of honesty, professionalism, respect, trust, and teamwork while utilizing the Ducommun Way methodology to achieve objectives.

The buyer manages the sourcing process from detailed analysis through evaluation, negotiation, and award with guidance from the commodity leader. They collaborate with operation supply chain and NPI buyers to align supplier selections with commodity strategies, supporting successful product launches.

Requirements

  • Experienced procurement professional with technical knowledge; preferably in the aerospace industry
  • Previous experience planning and ordering metals; mill direct purchasing experience a plus
  • Bill of material and ERP/MRP knowledge required
  • Strong collaboration and facilitation skills supporting projects that cross multiple functional areas
  • Strong performance management and leadership skills
  • Team player with ability to communicate professionally at all levels of the organization
  • Decisive, assertive, highly motivated and enthusiastic
  • Ability to make data-driven decisions with strong analytical skills

Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of commodity materials and services for operation centers across DCO
  • Execute commodity strategy with DCO Commodity Director to support each SBU
  • Process purchase requisitions and issue purchase orders, ensuring competitive pricing through negotiation of price and lead-times
  • Procure raw materials per BOM requirements, including aluminum, titanium, steel, and hardware
  • Ensure ITAR compliance through secured and coded correspondence using designated communication portals
  • Manage the sourcing process through detailed analysis, evaluation, negotiation, and award with support from commodity leader
  • Collaborate with operation supply chain and NPI buyers to align supplier selections with commodity strategies
  • Communicate timely requirements and forward material issues, delays, and status updates to achieve successful product launches
