About this role
Opal, part of the Nippon Paper Group, manufactures products you see, touch, and use every day. We are seeking a Supply Chain & Logistics Manager to join our Opal Fibre business in Hastings, New Zealand, serving a customer base of recognisable names in FMCG, Retail, and Fresh Produce.
This highly strategic, dynamic role manages a large and complex supply chain and logistics network focused on seasonal stock builds for fresh produce customers. You will oversee warehousing, local and linehaul freight, and container movements while driving standardised processes and strict management for aged stock.
You will hold logistics partners accountable, drive KPI compliance, and resolve freight and invoicing discrepancies. The role offers clear visibility to the senior leadership team and is designed as a direct succession pathway for national supply chain opportunities.
Working with a critical regional hub, you will navigate complex cross-country stock movements, massive 23,000-pallet storage capacities, and direct interactions with major pack houses. If you thrive on building structure out of complexity, this role gives you the autonomy to overhaul 3PL performance and implement data-driven workflows.
Requirements
- Strong supply chain and logistics expertise with proven experience managing large-scale warehousing, freight operations, and seasonal inventory builds
- Experience within a manufacturing, packaging, or primary industries sector
- A track record of stepping into unstructured environments to implement standard operating procedures (SOPs), clear KPIs, and structural stability
- Confidence in closely managing external transport and warehousing vendors, identifying and resolving issues, and driving contract compliance
- Ability to coach and develop an internal operational team, manage upcoming workforce transitions, and step into site-wide leadership initiatives
- Analytical, resilient, and highly collaborative professional who can manage up and across an organization while thriving in a high-volume seasonal environment
Responsibilities
- Oversee warehousing, local and linehaul freight, and container movements while driving standardised processes and strict management for aged stock
- Hold logistics partners accountable, driving KPI compliance, and resolve freight and invoicing discrepancies
- Leverage analytical tools and ordering systems to maintain optimal working capital and budgeted stock
- Partner cross-functionally with sales, production planners, and paper mill supply chain teams
- Maintain deep relationships with major fresh produce clients
- Champion full compliance with HS&E and Chain of Responsibility (COR) legislation
- Mentor, train, and build accountability across a team of direct and indirect reports
