About this role
This position uses import/export regulations to classify products and determines eligibility for various regulatory programs involved in international imports and exports. The role serves as a liaison between UPS and government entities to resolve issues related to customs declarations, shipping restrictions, and tax payments.
Daily work includes substantiating classification decisions with General Rules of Interpretation, Explanatory Notes, CROSS rulings, and other resources. The representative engages in Country of Origin verification projects by contacting suppliers to obtain accurate origin data for customer products.
Product databases and classification information are managed and organized in Excel and Access. Classifications and supporting documentation are entered into the proprietary operating system while maintaining accurate records.
Proactive communication with customers includes educating them on regulatory procedures. The position operates within a Fortune Global 500 organization focused on international trade compliance and supply chain operations.
Requirements
- Strong knowledge of US Customs and Border Protection Regulations
- Bachelor's Degree (or internationally comparable degree) - Preferred
- International Trade, Logistics or Freight Forwarding experience - Preferred
- Previous experience with classification and/or FTA determination - Preferred
Responsibilities
- Substantiates classification decisions using General Rules of Interpretation (GROI), Explanatory Notes, CROSS and other resources.
- Engages in Country of Origin verification projects and contacts suppliers to obtain correct Country of Origin for customers' products.
- Manages and organizes product databases and classification information in Excel and Access.
- Enters product classifications and substantiation into proprietary operating system.
- Communicates proactively with customers including educating customers on regulatory procedures.
